Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Girl likes boy. Boy is afraid to tell girl how he feels and instead changes into a relationship destroying monster. Boy tries to flirt with girl. Girl flirts back. Boy gets excited that someone shows interest. Boy still has not worked up the courage to ask girl out yet (since that is his job) so he sees if she was just being nice by flirting with her again. Girl decides to test the water by backing off and acting like she is not Interested. This discourages the boy and thinks she never really liked him. Boy writes off the whole ordeal as "just another loss"
